Whatever happened to Nine Livez?
Just read the stuff here - most seems on the money. I'm in Wollongong, and keep in touch with all the guys from NL. As stated, I played in a band called The Chapter with some guys left over from a Sydney band called Forced Entry (classic name!). That kind of died when I decided to pursue the "other career" in the police force (why did I do THAT I find myself asking...), as did the other guys in that band too....
I've been playing in various agency backed cover bands, and most recently still playing with "Blaze of Glory" - the Australian Bon Jovi Tribute Show, and I fill in for a band called Millenium Bug.
I played in and recorded an album with a band in Sydney called Limousine, but after a year of fluffing around with the guitar tracks and departure of the guitar player, I pulled the pin - and limo has kind of evolved into a cover band thing with infrequent original gigs and revolving members.
Of course, Harvey played in Subtract (with Mark Rees, the old drummer from Hammerack, funny enough), until recently, when he moved to Melbourne to pursue other interests.
Nine Livez Reunion?? I can't really see that happening - I would always be keen, but I think the other guys have moved on and the tyranny of time and distance would prevent it... The last time I raised it, I got a few sideways looks. :/ I dunno if there is really an audience for it TBH. Maybe after Push Push and ABBA get back together...

Any recordings available of Nine Livez? Be quite keen to play them on the show
They eventually called it a day. Rueben the Drummer is currently living in Australia and is still playing drums. He is in between bands at the moment. Mike the Lead Singer is still in NZ and is now a property developer. He has hung up his microphone for the moment. Mickey B the Lead Guitarist is also living in OZ and not currently playing in a band as far as I know and I think even Harvey the Bass player has crossed the ditch now. So maybe a reunion is on the cards....... Stranger things have happened.
Last I heard they were heading off to the US to seek their fame & fortune.
What happened? Thatw as just after the gig here in CHCH about 1992/1993?
No. The USA thing didn't happen. I'm not sure what year they broke up or the circumstances, maybe Devlin or Ross could enlighten us more.
I never heard anything specific about the USA. It was still too far in the future.
Nine Livez were pretty much taking it one step at a time as far as I could tell. The last plan I heard about was the move to the larger market of Australia.
They arrived minus Harvey, and shortly after, Mike came back. Nine Livez ended there.
Rueb and Mick had another band called "The Chapter" for a while, then called it a day.

Such a shame. Like so many of the great bands from that era they got no assistance or air play & faded away while crappy electro hip hop rubbish thrived & got all the exposure!
They did get a bit of airplay on Radio Hauraki up here with "Take Me Back" but as you say, not enough. I used to play with Mickey B in a band called Despiser before he joined Nine Livez and he was a wicked guitarist even back then. But you know with support from people like you, some of us are able to give it another go and show some of the new bands how we did it back in the day.
Mate, I cna name the bands: Hammerack, Fat Sally, Brainslide, Tempest, Talon, Stonehenge, Despiser, Stormbringer, Tokyo , Strikematser, Knightshade, ...the list probably goes on & on...ALL OF THEM were better than anything modern in the metal scene today. And all fo them, even Knightshade didn't get the exposure they should have. I mean Hammerack used to regularily pull 500 people on a thursday night at a local hotel in their heyday....what sort of metal band today does that?
Its a dman shame that most fo them are long gone & moved on.
And that is why when bands or band members from thos ehelcion days reform or start playing in new bands I will always support them. They deserve the support & recognition that they never got.
Liek wise with bands form the NWOBHM & others of that era.
That was my brief when I was approached to do a metal show. Yes I would support new NZ local metal bands BUT the show would always have a high content from thos e"Old School" days when metal was real music not just cookie monsters growling over thrashy rhytm crap like it is today!
All great kiwi metal bands for sure. I remember all those names even though I haven't seen all of them live. here's another name for you... Rose Bayonet. It was really cool for my old band Naked Blade to play with Stonehenge and Strikemaster at the Axe Attack's 21st birthday gig at the Transmission room last year. And catching up with Steve "Dog" Hall from Confessor and Paul Martin who was as close as we got to Knightshade on the night was great too. A lot of talent in our little corner of the world.Hahaha..... Cookie Monsters...... Love it!
